In a court hearing, a supervisor testified that the state agency responsible for child welfare was told to investigate parents of transgender children without exception.
The investigations by the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services started last week with an employee of the agency, according to the suit, after Gov. Greg Abbott called for such inquiries.
While it’s unclear whether the order could be enforced, medical providers and child welfare advocates condemned the move as dangerous.
Don Huffines, who is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott in next year’s Republican primary, said the content on the state web page was “offensive.” It was quickly removed.
